Personal Philosophy of Technology in Education

Personal Philosophy of Technology in Education Elizabeth Rader EDUC 630 – B02 Dr. Amanda Roberts       Generally, the term technology would imply the use of computers or a similar device.   However, technology is not something that is new to education and limited to the use of a modern device (Roblyer & Hughes, 2019, p. 2).   Technology is a tool that is used to make life simpler.   Merriam-Webster defines technology as “the practical application of knowledge” (n.d.).   Everywhere we look, technology is in use.   The alphabet is even referred to as a type of communication technology (Wisnewski, 2020, para. 19).   Throughout history educators have worked to prepared students to enter the workforce.   As technology evolved in society and became more prominent, educators found it useful to implement more technology into the classroom as a way to meet the needs of the students.   Both technology and education have...

Differentiation through Technology

Differentiation through Technology Elizabeth Rader While educators work to meet grade-level content standards, they must also meet the individual needs of each of their students.   Teachers have been able to use technology in order to meet the needs of their students and maximize learning in the classroom.      There are several technologies on the market today that introduce, teach, reinforce, and assess student learning.   Roblyer and Hughes believe that with an increase of technology, “good teachers are more essential now than ever” (2019, pp. 14-15).   It is vital for school districts to have teachers who have a good grasp of educational technology and are intuitive to the needs of their students.   There are several tools that help meet both needs.   Schools who are one-to-one with Chromebooks or laptops have a powerful tool that allows students the opportunity to extend learning outside the classroom.   Smartboards, and s...

Technology Self-Assessment Assignment

The Basics to Technology Integration Elizabeth Rader EDUC 630 – B02 Dr. Amanda Roberts Classroom Management Classroom management has been a strength of mine since I began teaching.   As technology increases, it is frightening to hear what some students are capable of.   With this in mind, I am trying to be proactive in dealing with technology in the hands of students.   It seems to be that small adjustments to the classroom add up to make a big difference. The more technology in the hands of students, the more proximity is important.   Teachers should not spend all of their time in one place in the classroom.   To keep students engaged in the lesson and on task, it is important to be moving around and checking on the students’ progress.   When lecturing, most teachers tend to be towards the front of the class.   However, when a student has a Chromebook at their desk, this does not allow the teacher access to th...
Technology has proven to be a very useful tool to promote learning in my classroom over the years.   However, in the last year technology has become essential to education through the pandemic.   To continue learning while students are quarantined to their home, the school system has chosen to utilize G Suite.   The main applications that I have utilized are Slides, Docs, Drive, Classroom, Forms, Meet, and Jamboard.   I have also found Kami to be very helpful.   It allows individuals to annotate and work collaboratively on documents.   A couple of extensions have proven useful in fourth grade.   Bitmoji has enabled me to personalize worksheets and assignments.   Mote has also proven useful in giving verbal feedback to students.  A website that I have used in my classroom to review for tests is Kahoot!.   The students are highly engaged and get a bit competitive at times.   The website allows all students to participate, w...
